Prophets, Prophecy, Accuracy, and Accountability

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_207f.jpgThere is not one Godly prophet in the Old or New Testaments, including Jesus, who prophesied something that did not come to pass within a reasonable amount of time, much less that never came to pass.

In the Old Testament when someone spoke in the name of the Lord and what they said was not true, or what they predicted did not come to pass, they died at the hands of God’s people.

This tells me that Isaiah, who prophesied a virgin would be with child eight centuries before Mary conceived Jesus in the Immaculate Conception, either had a special grace and favor with God and man, or in some fashion his predictive word came to pass in his lifetime.

In the New Testament, those who speak in the name of the Lord something that is not true, or that does not come to pass is not killed by God’s people, but their ministry can die because God’s people have the right and responsibility to judge what is said to be from God.

Paul and Silas found out that although the people in Berea were extremely excited for them to come teach them, they did not take what Paul and Silas taught as truth as being true until they searched the Scriptures themselves – daily.

“10 The brethren [in Thessalonica] immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” [Acts 17]

This examining of the Old Testament Scriptures [here Greek / graphe – written word] is a different word Paul used when he commanded the Thessalonicans to examine prophecy and those who prophesy. This word ‘examine’ means to investigate, sift, interrogate, question. It comes from a root word meaning to repeatedly and intensively forensically test. When teaching people how to study the Bible I encourage them to be like a detective walking into a crime scene with no preconceived ideas on what happened. There are six questions the inquisitive inquisitor should ask every text they read. They are: who, what, when, where, why and how.

UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_1ff0.jpg

As you ask those questions gazing into the text you will begin to see the truths that are contained within it. Like looking at a hologram, it may take some time to see what is in there but when the time is taken to see the student will quickly begin to  learn.

This examination will be encouraged by Paul in his great instruction on judging prophets and prophecy in 1 Corinthians 14:29. We will “examine” that text later!

Apparently Paul and Silas were fine with being examined, as well as their teaching being examined by the Thessalonican people. Every legitimate minister is okay with being examined!

In many places nobility is lacking both in those who minister and those they minister to.

Credibility is such a rare commodity in our world today and I am greatly concerned a lack of credibility and accountability has crept into the church Jesus is building as well. Fact checking God’s ministers has been around since the beginning of when people started saying they came [to speak, to teach] in the name of the Lord. Too many “hear from God” and leave when the examination commences.

Even Jesus submitted His ministry to those He ministered to – “37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; 38 but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.” [John 10]

Jesus’ words and His works matched the works of His Father which should have convinced the Jews He was legitimate. What we say is as important as what we do and when they are not congruent people have a right to reject what we say and do, which means they reject us as worthy to minister to them. unless we become vulnerable and accountable to them.

You cannot disconnect what a person says and does from that person! “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” so what we say reveals what is really in our heart.

Nicodemus who was a teacher of the Jews recognized this connection when he said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him” [John 3:2].

In the Old Testament the punishment was so severe for speaking in God’s name something untrue, or that did not come to pass because God’s people did not have the Holy Spirit inside of them and could easily be led astray. Prophets were accepted as God’s delegated spokesmen.

In the New Testament every true born again believer has the Holy Spirit inside of them and it is their responsibility to test everything to ensure what they are told is true. Also, every born again believer has the right and responsibility to speak for the God that saved them, even moving in the gift of prophecy.

John wrote this in 1 John 2: “18 Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have appeared; from this we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us. 20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all know. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it, and because no lie is of the truth. . . . 26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. 27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.”

When people run away from the very people they have said they love and are connected to because what they say and do come under scrutiny by those they say they love and are connected, it reveals a heart of corruption that John identifies as the spirit of the antichrist. John said many antichrists were on the scene in his day and those antichrists came from within the church. Keep in mind there was one church per region so it was unlikely those who left a church could become part of another one easily and inconspicuously.

Today, accountability is very difficult because there are multitudes of churches in search of gifted and anointed people. Most church growth is simply people shifting to different churches. Some simple fact checking could go a long way to rooting out the rebellious!

Two thousand years ago John referred to the time he lived in as “the last hour” twice in verse 18. John goes on to exhort the people to trust the anointing [Spirit of truth] that was in them would keep them safe from error. This means God’s people best be in God’s written Word [graphe in the Old and New Testaments] so they have God’s plumb line to line up what is being said or done in the name of the Lord with God’s eternal and established Word.

The anointing inside each believer is there to ensure they are not duped by the anointing of someone presenting themselves a representing God. When the one ministering insists their anointing is so good that those they minister to do not need to verify what they say and do is genuine, they misrepresent the God they claim to represent.

For all those concerned that we are living in the last days take a deep breath and relax, John lived in the last hour.

In fact, John wrote that Jesus spoke of this hour in the fourth chapter of his gospel.

“19 The woman said to Him, ‘Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you people say that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.’ 21 Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.'”

In this text Jesus revealed an hour was coming twice and the second time He referred to it He said, “and now is,” two thousand years ago. John and Jesus were speaking of a contemporary reality that was imminent to that generation. The last hour, which was the hour that was “now is [here]” was the total destruction of Judaism as a life giving system. In fact, by the time John wrote his “last hour” prediction the destruction of Jerusalem and the sacred Jewish temple was fast approaching.

The “hour” was not understood to be a literal sixty minute time span but an imminent time change that was about to take place. I believe that “hour” started ticking down when Jesus died on the Cross and God ripped the veil in the temple from the top to the bottom exposing the Holy of Holies as being void of the Ark of the Covenant.

Now I know that what I just said is considered ridiculous in our pop-culture Christian world but I believe every Book of the New Testament, including The Revelation of Jesus Christ, was completed prior to 70AD.

Paul said this in Hebrews chapter eight verse thirteen, “When He said, ‘A new covenant,’ He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear.” It is understood that Hebrews was written in or about 67AD meaning within three years or so Judaism died and was burned with fire along with Jerusalem and the temple.

Jesus had predicted prior to His Olivet Discourse and in that Discourse that the generation who heard what He said would see the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. Jesus even referred to His disciples multiple times in His discourse. [See Matthew 23, 24; Mark 13]

The pre-incarnate Christ appeared to Abraham and Sarah revealing, “At this time next year you will have a son.” Here is the text found in Genesis 18 – “9 Then they said to him, ‘Where is Sarah your wife?’ And he said, ‘There, in the tent.’ 10 He said, ‘I will surely return to you at this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.’ And Sarah was listening at the tent door, which was behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; Sarah was past childbearing. 12 Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ‘After I have become old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?’ 13 And the Lord said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, when I am so old?’ 14 Is anything too difficult for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.’ 15 Sarah denied it however, saying, ‘I did not laugh’; for she was afraid. And He said, ‘No, but you did laugh.'”

Now we could take this predictive prophecy two ways. First, we could say that the Lord was saying Sarah would have an immaculate conception. But we know that is not what was meant because there could only be one immaculate conception and that would not happen for approximately 2,021 years. Second, Abraham and Sarah, although past the age of childbearing and quite possibly the age of engaging in sexual intercourse, went into their tent and had marital relations needed to conceive a child.

The second option seems more likely to me based on what Paul said in Hebrews chapter eleven and Romans chapter four.

Hebrews 11 – “11 By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore there was born even of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.”

Sarah’s faith energized her reproductive organs and quite possibly activated her sexual desire. They had tried for twenty five years to have a child without success. In addition to being too old to have children in the natural [Sarah was ninety and Abraham was one hundred] we can safely assume the desire to try waned over the years too.

Romans 4 – “16 For this reason it is by faith, in order that it may be in accordance with grace, so that the promise will be guaranteed to all the descendants, not only to those who are of the Law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, 17 [as it is written, ‘A father of many nations have I made you’] in the presence of Him whom he believed, even God, who gives life to the dead and calls into being that which does not exist. 18 In hope against hope he believed, so that he might become a father of many nations according to that which had been spoken, ‘So shall your descendants be.’ 19 Without becoming weak in faith he contemplated his own body, now as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and the deadness of Sarah’s womb; 20 yet, with respect to the promise of God, he did not waver in unbelief but grew strong in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform. 22 Therefore It was also credited to him as righteousness.”

‘Perform’ here means he was able to do the necessary work required to produce what the Lord promised them. Abraham took inventory of his natural condition and weighed that against the weight of God’s promise of a son with Sarah. Abraham faced the facts of Sarah’s and his condition but chose to focus on the truth of God’s word. As he considered what he was facing his respect for God far outweighed his history of losing expectation of becoming a father of the son of promise. Abraham’s faith grew stronger as he glorified God. As he became fully assured that what God promised was going to come to pass he was given the ability and desire to perform. His performance was credited to him as righteousness.

Agabus was a recognized prophet in the church in Jerusalem. His prophetic ministry is revealed in Acts 11 and Acts 21. What we find in those texts is Agabus was a predictive prophet because both times he is mentioned he is predicting future events.

It is interesting to me God used a prophet whose name means locust to prophesy a famine, but He did. Maybe Agabus himself was the message to the saints about a future problem in Judea!

“27 Now at this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 One of them named Agabus stood up and began to indicate [signify] by the Spirit that there would certainly be a great famine all over the world. And this took place in the reign of Claudius. 29 And in the proportion that any of the disciples had means, each of them determined to send a contribution for the relief of the brethren living in Judea. 30 And this they did, sending it in charge of Barnabas and Saul to the elders.” [Acts 11]

Luke writes that a plurality of prophets arrived in Antioch from the Jerusalem church. We do not know how many prophets were with Agabus and what the additional prophets did in Antioch. All we are told is Agabus prophesied a famine that would affect the whole world. Now, “whole world” can be interpreted as the whole world, the whole world Rome was ruling over, or the whole land of Judea. My guess is he was predicting a famine throughout Judea because that is where the relief supplies were directed and delivered to the elders – in Jerusalem!

We do not even know if Agabus and his team of prophets were a part of the eldership team in Jerusalem, just the provisions were delivered to them by Barnabas and Saul [Paul].

Did you notice his predictive prophesy came to pass during the reign of Claudius. Luke does not record Agabus placing a time frame on his word from God. Historians put this famine in 45AD. If Agabus prophesied in or about 40AD then his prophecy came to pass within five years.

The next time we find Agabus prophesying is in Acts 21 where he prophesied in Caesarea that Paul would be arrested in Jerusalem. Luke writes that Paul was arrested in the temple during that trip to Jerusalem.

Do you see that predictive prophets cannot claim they speak for God when what they predict does not come to pass in a reasonable amount of time? Jesus predicted the destruction of Jerusalem within a generation [forty years – 30AD – 70AD] so the people had every right to expect that within forty years His prediction would come true. And it did!

Agabus did not put a time frame on either one of his predictive prophesies although it could have been, and very well may have been, understood Paul would be arrested on that trip into Jerusalem. And he was indeed arrested on that trip to Jerusalem.

There is no evidence that God ever releases a prophetic word that does not have a shelf life of a reasonable amount of time. And when a prophet gives a specific time frame, just as Jesus did in His Olivet Discourse, that prophet is on the hook for what they predicted to come to pass.

How else could God’s people “examine [test] everything carefully” and “hold onto that which is good” as Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 5, if they must continue to hang on forever waiting on the word to come true?

“19 Do not quench the Spirit; 20 do not despise prophetic utterances. 21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; 22 abstain from every form of evil.

Paul first said, “Do not quench the Holy Spirit.” Many have interpreted that to mean “do not despise prophesies” but that is not what the Holy Spirit meant when He had Paul write it before “do not despise prophecies.” Quenching the Holy Spirit first and foremost means to not allow Him to function in His primary calling to comfort and convict, as well as to lead people into all the truth [God’s written Word].

Jesus first reveals the Holy Spirit as ‘Helper.” Then as the “Spirit of truth.” Then as the One who “will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” [John 14]

Helper means One called to come alongside for the purpose of providing aid, to advocate, assist, counsel, console, and intercede for.

.Then he said, “Do not despise prophesies” which means it is possible for God’s people to despise prophecy. We know that many church cultures refuse to allow prophets and the gift of prophecy to operate in their environments. Apparently prophecy is despised in some places today and I believe the reason is because of all the “words from God” that never come to pass.

Then he said, “Hold onto that which is good” meaning not to hold onto anything or anyone that is not good.

Lastly he said, “abstain from every form of evil.” ‘Abstain’ literally means: To prevent, to keep your distance from, and to not receive [have] anything evil [harmful, perverted, diseased, impoverished, and not productive].

What did Paul mean when he wrote, “examine everything carefully”? Paul uses language that those who tested metals and currency for purity and authenticity understood. Paul wanted the saints at Thessalonica to test by fire and by pressure what was offered to them, and those who offered it. Paul had written something similar to the saints in Corinth. “each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work [and words]” [1 Corinthians 3:13].

Paul was instructing the Thessalonican saints not to be credulous but to examine everything and everyone with great care. Where Luke wrote these same people poured through the Scriptures [Old Testament] carefully to compare what they were being taught as truth with the Truth, Paul wrote they were to examine everything and everyone with heated discourse, applying pressure in private, just like a smelter of silver and gold and the person tasked with ensuring the currency was not counterfeit, to discover what was in the heart of the people presenting themselves as legitimate ministers.

One great tool for the initial examination is the gift of the Spirit known as discerning of spirits. This gift is given by the Holy Spirit to alert us to what kind of spirit is operating in any given situation, individual or group setting. This gift discerns [distinguishes and identifies] whether it is the Holy Spirit, human spirit, angel or demonic spirit operating in our midst. The Holy Spirit is the first line of defense when we are hearing anyone speak for God. Being sensitive to the Spirit is vitally important and we must learn to recognize what He is saying inside of us. Then we must allow the Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth as found in the Scripture [graphe].

I believe this gift was used by Paul when he confronted the slave girl operating in divination [false prophecy] in Philippi [Ats 16]. “16 It happened that as we were going to the place of prayer, a slave-girl having a spirit of divination met us, who was bringing her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 Following after Paul and us, she kept crying out, saying, ‘These men are bond-servants of the Most High God, who are proclaiming to you the way of salvation.’ 18 She continued doing this for many days. But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, ‘I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!’ And it came out at that very moment.”

Here we see it is possible to have an accurate word come from a person with a demonic spirit. Divination is obtaining unknown knowledge through a spiritual source other than God, thus the slave girl had a spirit of divination. She had given herself over to it because it gave her the ability to profit monetarily.

This spirit is a counterfeit to the gifts of the Holy Spirit called words of knowledge and words of wisdom, which often work in tandem with prophecy. The Greek word used is Pýthōn. Isn’t it interesting how that serpent is always looking for an opportunity to slip into our midst to deceive us? How did Paul know she was not a legitimate prophetic person? The Holy Spirit’s gift of the discerning of spirits is what I believe he used to recognize she was a fortune teller.

Paul cast that spirit out of her and that caused a riot and eventually a revival church to be birthed! In between there was pain, prison and then greater manifest Presence! That is usually God’s process to revival in an individual or a region!

In Philippi Paul and his team met a lady from Thyatira named Lydia. Lydia was an entrepreneur who sold purple fabrics. Lydia means travail and Thyatira means the odor of affliction. Lydia was a worshiper of God whose heart God opened to receive Paul, his team and their ministry. Lydia provided a temporary base of operations in Philippi for the advancement of the gospel of the kingdom to proceed into Europe.

I encourage you to read the resurrected Jesus’ words to the church at Thyatira found in Revelation 2:18-29. He begins with [verse 18] – “And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: The Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and His feet are like burnished bronze, says this:” In the middle of His word to Thyatira Jesus says in verse 23, “and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.” Do you notice a pattern?

We saw above what John wrote in 1 John 2 about the Holy Spirit [anointing] protecting us from being deceived in. He also wrote this in 1 John 5 [KJV] – “6 And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. 7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.”

Jesus, before he came as a human was known in eternity past as the Word [John 1:1]. John wrote the Word became flesh [1:14]. Now, since He ascended to the throne next to His Father He is known as the only Mediator between God and man, “the Man Christ Jesus,” Now in eternity present and future He is known as the Man who Mediates.

This is in and of itself a huge subject but suffice it to say the Father, the Word that still remains in heaven now that Jesus came to earth and returned as a resurrected Man, and the Spirit all bear witness in earth to that which is accepted in heaven for use in the earth.

Look at what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 12 – “29 Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others pass judgment. 30 But if a revelation is made to another who is seated, the first one must keep silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted; 32 and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets; 33 for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.

Paul did not allow for prophecy to go without being judged and neither did he allow for prophets to escape judgment. Lets examine carefully Paul’s instructions on how to steward prophets and prophetic ministry.

  • In a particular service only two to three prophets should speak
    • I believe this is because every matter is to be established out of the mouths of two to three witnesses which means the two to three prophets prophesying should prophesy things that are in harmony with each other and God’s eternal Word
    • 2 Peter 1 – “19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
      • Scripture, all of it, is to be how we judge any prophet or prophetic ministry
      • If someone prophesies anything contrary to Scripture it is to be rejected and if the person prophesying refuses to admit what they have prophesied is not in line with Scripture they are to be rejected because they are self interpreting and judging their own prophecies and prophetic ministry
  • As each prophet speaks “the others” pass judgment
    • Is Paul referring to the other prophets or the others in the hearing of the prophets
      • I believe the answer is yes, both the other prophets and the others in the hearing of the prophecies are to judge what is prophesied and those who prophesy
      • What does “pass judgment” mean
        • Pick it apart
        • To separate by straining through a strainer
        • To render a judicial decision based on every aspect of what is said and or done
  • The purpose of judging prophets and their prophecies is so:
    • All may learn
    • All may be encouraged
      • Who are the “all” who may learn and be encouraged
      • I believe all is all inclusive meaning all the prophets and all those exposed to their prophetic ministry
        • Prophets, just like apostles, evangelists, pastors and teachers are to equip the saints for the work of ministry, so their primary function is training everyone in prophetic ministry
    • Each prophet is to steward his own spirit by keeping it clean and pure and submitted to the other prophets and prophetic people who have learned and are being encouraged in their prophetic ministry
    • A prophet who refuses to pass through the judgment is to be judged as false
    • Encouragement is one of the three legs the gift of prophecy stands on [v3]
  • God is not confused and He does not spread or allow the spread of confusion in any of the churches of the saints

Again, to judge prophecy is to judge the person prophesying, whether that person is a prophet or not.

The New Testament warns about these false people and ministers:

  • False apostles [2 Corinthians 11:13; Revelation 2:2]
  • False prophets [Matthew 24:11,24; Mark 13:22; Acts 13:6; 2 Peter 2:1; 1 John 4:1; Revelation 16:13; 19:20; 20:10]
  • False Christs [saviors] [Matthew 24:24; Mark 13:22]
  • False teachers [2 Peter 2:1]
  • False brethren [2 Corinthians 11:26; Galatians 2:4]
  • False witness [Matthew 15:19; 19:18]
  • False circumcision [Philippians 3:2]

A cursory reading of church history reveals within the generation that was alive when Jesus was walking the planet all of the above were contemporary concerns for the genuine Christian, Christian leader and church community. And in the two thousand years since they are still a concern for leaders of the churches of the saints.

James tells us in chapter 3 verse 1 – “Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.

“Stricter judgment” means a greater, larger, louder and stronger condemnation of wrong. This means the decisions made carry more weight and will travel farther than the judgments [decisions] of those who do not teach God’s people. This phrase comes from a Greek word that means: To separate for the purpose of approving or disapproving, determining what is right or wrong, and what is safe or unsafe. What is intended is to determine whether the one teaching is worthy of being trusted as a teacher.

That is why James uses the word “become” a teacher. Teachers are gifts of Christ who He calls to be[come] teachers. This means anyone called better know that it is a holy calling and not to be taken lightly. ‘Become’ means: To arise into the position, and onto the public stage you were called to take.

Paul reveals that teachers are third in line of importance in the church Jesus is building [the churches of the saints]. “And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers.” [1 Corinthians 12:28]

So, if teachers who are third in line come under a “stricter judgment” what kind of judgment do apostles and prophets come under?

This is where accuracy and accountability intersect. If a person who teaches or prophesies speaks something that is not true or does not come to pass within a reasonable amount of time, then that person must be willing to give an account of what they said to those they said it to. Not only that, but they must root out the root problem[s] that caused them to speak in the name of the Lord something the Lord was not saying. It is not enough to say, “I’m sorry!” The person must understand and articulate why they said what they said.

If they refuse to make themselves and their ministry accountable then they are to be judged as false ministers because their heart is not holy.

The only way for a person judged as false can be reinstated in good standing is by repenting and submitting to the delegated authorities in the church of the saints they worship in.

Receive and steward God’s passion, power, presence, priority, process, promises, protection, provision, pruning, purging, purity and purpose!

Globalism and False Worship!

Globalism, as it is being positioned, provided for and promoted today, is the tower of Babel poor substitute for the Kingdom of God in the earth and it’s King’s rule on earth.

Globalism, Judaism and Christian Zionism come from the same spirit where a centralized government rules the population on the planet.

Globalism wants to rule the world from Brussels, Belgium where the European Union is located, or possibly from the United Nations in New York!

Judaism and Christian Zionism postulates Jerusalem as THE place where God will rule the world.

Both of these “positions” are false and create a false worship among their followers!

Liberals support globalism because it leads to centralized power, thereby providing liberals with an easier way to gain control. It is far easier for liberals to persuade a handful of people in centralized government to rule in their favor than it is for liberals to push their agenda on a decentralized form of government.

According to the Oxford American Dictionary, globalism is the advocacy of “the interpretation or planning of economic and foreign policy in relation to events and developments throughout the world.” In its most extreme forms it is sometimes expressed using terms such as “one world,” support for a single world government, and/or terms such as “world citizen” or “global citizen.” Some globalist groups such as the World Federalist Movement, and some non-Christian religions such as Bahai, actively campaign for world government. “Global” is a currently fashionable term in business, where the term “international” would be more appropriate usage; the term “international” implies business operations between a few countries, while “global” implies worldwide business, making it an adequate term for some forms of business that do operate across the world. Many aspects of globalism fall under the umbrella of globalization, which refers to how local phenomena can become global phenomena.

Jesus, the King of God’s Kingdom, rules over the nations of the earth right now, and these nations have distinct boundaries from heaven’s perspective.

“24 The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands . . . 26 and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, 27 that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28 for in Him we live and move and exist.” [Acts 17]

Imagine that, God is into boundaries [borders]!

And, God determined and appointed the boundaries every person is to live within, including the time they live!

John in the Book of Revelation said this in chapter 7, “9 After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and palm branches were in their hands; 10 and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Salvation to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.’ 11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures; and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 saying, ‘Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.'”

God is even into the distinctions that each and every person and culture possesses. God is into unity, not uniformity!

For those who think Jesus MUST return to earth to BEGIN his rule I have a text for you to ponder.

“20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. 21 For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christ’s at His coming, 24 then comes the end, when He hands over the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. 25 For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be abolished is death. 27 For He has put all things in subjection under His feet. But when He says, ‘All things are put in subjection,’ it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. 28 When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.” [1 Corinthians 15]

This is just one text that can be used to prove that Christ is ruling and reigning at this very moment and has been since He was raised from the dead and ascended into the realm  [dimension] called heaven.

Jesus will not begin His reign when He returns! When He returns He hands over the “reigns” of His reign to His Father!

Jesus, as I taught in my Jesus and Jerusalem series which began in October of 2013, said this that so many have missed ~

“21 Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, believe Me, an hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.’” [John 4]

Jesus reduced the importance of a specific place [Samaria and Jerusalem] to worship the Father and elevated the way to worship the Father [in spirit [no geographical boundaries and limitations] and truth [no deceptive agendas].

Jesus tells the woman He was speaking to:

  1. “An hour is coming when neither on this mountain [in Samaria] nor in Jerusalem will you [the woman] worship the Father.”
    1. Jesus spoke of an imminent change of reality in the place, posture and purpose of worshiping the Father!
    2. Jesus spoke of ignorance in worship!
  2. “An hour is coming, and now is”.
    1. My how fast time flies!
    2. An “hour” “is” [was] coming and before Jesus finished what He was saying to the woman that hour arrived.
    3. That was 2000 years ago!
      1. Today we have people telling us there is a future time where everyone who does not go to Jerusalem to worship the Father will have bad stuff happen to them.
      2. That is not the revelation [truth] Jesus gave this woman.
      3. That is a portion of the truth the “true worshipers” must use in worshiping the Father.
      4. Why? Because the Father seeks worship from those worshipers! “For such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.”
  3. “God is spirit” and therefore is not bound to a geographical location, nor does He bind true worshipers to a geographical location in order for them to worship Him.
    1. Worship in spirit can happen any time and any place the true worshiper chooses!
    2. The only limitation that is on the true worshiper is the limit placed on them by them!

I encourage you to go to Bethel Church Brunswick, GA’s YouTube channel and watch the series Jesus and Jerusalem. It follows another provocative series titled, WHO IS THE ISRAEL OF GOD, And What Does That Have To Do With Me?

Please keep in mind this very important point as it pertains to studying Scripture ~ Everything said [written] in Scripture must be viewed in the light of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.

“1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.” [Hebrews 1]

“In these last days” began when Jesus arrived on the planet as a baby in a manger! People misdiagnose Scripture because they misunderstand when the last days began [begin].

If you believe the last days began when the State of Israel for formed you are already deceived!

Do due diligence and do what the Berean believers did – ” Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” [Acts 17:11]

Mistreatment From Misdiagnosis

This is a follow up blog to my last one titled, The Shemitah, Blood Moons, The Pope And The Real People Of God. Since I wrote and published that blog “the windows of heaven were opened” and the State and people of South Carolina were introduced to challenges to their well-being that have not been seen in their State since the 1800’s. It has been reported that they [the citizens in the 1800’s] were inundated with large amounts of rain in a very short period of time. So, instead of a 1000 year event, as Governor Nikki Haley pronounced, it is really more like a 100 – 200 year event.

Back then there was not the amount of people, structures or infrastructure to be confronted with the severity of the situation!

I titled this blog Mistreatment From Misdiagnosis because there are those who want to believe that God Himself is responsible for this horrendous “heavenly” release of devastation. When doctors misdiagnose one of their patient’s problems they can prescribe a “cure” that produces the wrong prognosis.

Prognosis comes from two words that means, “to know before.” When what we “know before” is not what really is then the results can be disastrous. That is what is happening when people who say they know what God is up to, attribute what is happening in the world to Him, when He is not the source of the current events.

Their error is in what they believe they already know. These false prognosticators read into the Scripture current events instead of allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture. When Scripture is allowed to interpret Scripture we will discover that a lot of what is “supposed to happen” has already happened.

Let’s take a look at some very important truths that are hidden in plain sight. Those who have not already made up their mind as to the real culprit in this catastrophic circumstance will be presented with an very different picture of who is to blame for the plight of the people.

Psalm 24:1

“The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it. The world and all who dwell in it.”

The earth has always been, and will always be the Lords. One of the first mistreatments of Scripture is the belief that when Adam and Eve sinned against God they gave the serpent [devil] the title deed to the planet. They did not give him the title to the planet. They gave him their right to rule as ambassadors for God.

Matthew 5:5

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

Jesus unequivocally states in the Beatitudes that God has reserved the earth as part of His children’s inheritance.

Matthew 5:43-48

Eschatological Options

(When all caps are used it is for emphasis only)

The goal of communication is understanding, not convincing. I have no desire to enter into an argument much less attempt to win one. Neither will I judge, ridicule or impugn those who feel the need to question my beliefs.

People believe what they believe and may change their beliefs after reading this response, but that is not my goal.

People also don’t know what they don’t know. When it comes to the subject of the end times many people only know what they know because they refuse to look at alternative endings. I was that person for the first twenty years of my walk with Christ.

I believed what I believed and couldn’t see anything else.

The reason was I wasn’t looking for anything else!

It is not my goal to get into a debate on eschatological issues.  If others want to add their thoughts, opinions or beliefs they will be accepted as long as they glorify Jesus and add to finding truth, not error.

We reserve the right to delete any post that we feel violates the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace.

Heresy is defined by Dictionary.com as “opinion or doctrine at variance with the orthodox or accepted doctrine, especially of a church or religious system.”

Dispensationalism has only been around approximately 180 years so it would seem that those who hold to that belief COULD be called heretics.

Dispensationalism, in a nutshell, is a belief where God has two sets of standards – one for natural Israel and the other for the rest of the world. It puts the focus of God’s dealings with mankind on a natural people, instead of a spiritual people. It believes that the Christian Church is a parenthesis in God’s timetable and natural Israel is really God’s main vehicle for blessing the earth.

Jesus Christ, the Head of the Church, and Paul the apostle were considered heretics in their day by self appointed religious purists who felt called to publicly castigate them. So, if I am considered a heretic by espousing a belief that they gave their lives to propagate and protect then I wear that moniker with grace and honor.

I once held dear certain beliefs concerning the last days and Israel according to the flesh. Then one day I had an epiphany. Those Christian leaders, authors, and TV personalities that I grew up in the Lord admiring kept missing the mark as it pertained to their “prophetic revelation on the last days and Israel”.

As I reflect back I cannot believe I did not see how negative their theology was, and still is.

Those who hold to the dispensational belief believe that the Holy Spirit will fail to fulfill the great commission to disciple all the nations. They would never own up to that but it is true regardless.

They see the world as getting worse under the leadership of the prince of darkness, the antichrist and his personal prophet.

If natural Israel is a nation then they must be included in that commission. To rapture the Church before the great commission is completed would be an admission that God could not fulfill the task through the blood bought saints. This obviously impugns the Holy Spirit and The Lord Jesus as well.

Jesus is called the “Desire of the Nations.” The psalmist wrote, “Ask of Me and I will give you the nations.”

Jesus said, “Go and disciple nations.” That has been reduced to hopefully getting some of the people in the nations saved.

Jesus has never been after converts. He is after disciples!

Dispensationalism teaches “an imminent return of Jesus”. This has led to a multitude of problems, one being sinners not being converted to Christ but having a false sense of security because they said the sinner’s prayer. No where in a scripture does it say you will be saved if you say the sinner’s prayer. God looks for conversions which are proved genuine by conversation and lifestyle changes.

Jesus is going to present to Himself a glorious Church without spot or wrinkle. This may take a long time to accomplish but He will accomplish it.

If dispensationalism is true His Church is divided and part of it will be raptured (blood bought saints) and the other part (natural Israel) will all be saved later.

Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers are to equip the saints for the work of ministry UNTIL we ALL [UNTIL ALL THE SAINTS] come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect (completely mature) man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. [Eph 4]

 Big job! Bigger God!!!

Paul continued on with some very specific additional things that are TO BE accomplished through the ministry of these 5 grace gifts of Christ.

If dispensationalism is true then Paul is a liar.

In my 33 years as a Christian there have been numerous people declared to be the antichrist, and dates have been set for when the rapture would occur. All to no avail!

A man once wrote a book on the 88 reasons why Jesus would return in 1988. I believed him!

When 1988 came and went and Jesus didn’t come he didn’t repent for his error. Instead, he predicted several more possible dates. Still no Jesus!!!!

Come to think of it, have any of the prophetic voices that have predicted inaccurately the antichrist or the date of the rapture or Jesus’ return repented?

So I did a novel thing. I started thinking for myself and searching the Scripture myself [Acts 17], and the moment I decided to do that I started seeing other Scriptures that challenged my long held beliefs. This is the essence of being teachable.

By the way, those same leaders, authors and TV personalities continue to revise their prophetic revelation to this day – decades after they declared what the Scripture “guaranteed would happen.”

Have you ever noticed the ministers and ministries who espouse this belief never relinquish their worldly possessions to “prove” they believe what they preach. Instead, they continue to increase in what they own.

It is so true both in the world and in the church – BAD NEWS SELLS!

And I won’t even go into the whole Y2K debacle (farce)! The dispensationalists were in a fever pitch over Y2K.

It’s never a good plan to take current events and then try to find Bible verses to prove your pet prophetic understanding. Oh yeah, one reason given for the no show of catastrophic events of Y2K was the fervent prayer of intercessors that saved the world from Y2K.  Did prayer change the computer language? That is a very convenient cop out because it cannot be proved.

One thing that grates on my nerves is the dispensational theology that keeps unbelieving Jews in a holding pattern away from salvation until God snatches the Church off the planet so He can get back to His main plan for man, and that is natural Israel. The first Jewish converts [Christians] gave all they had, including their lives to bring the message of salvation to other Jews. They were not going to wait for a secret rapture, the unveiling of the antichrist, the return of the Lord. And because of their zeal they were martyred.

You know, natural Israel is God’s prophetic time clock – right? It is in dispensationalist eschatology.

Well, a generation is 40 years! Right? Or is it 42 years, or 70 years, or 120 years?

Do we start the date of the generation that will see Jesus return in 1948, 1967, or 1973? These are important dates to outward Israel and dispensationalists.

This is really complicated isn’t it?

I was forced to consider this important question. How could God want multitudes of Jewish people to die and go to hell by waiting until Jesus physically returned to earth to save them? He doesn’t!!!

There are Christian Zionists that actually say we are not to evangelize Jewish people because they are all going to be saved by God when the fulness of the Gentiles comes in. They raise money to support the building of a third temple in Jerusalem and to provide all the furnishings et al. That money should go to the evangelization of the Jews instead.

Paul said the mystery that was hidden for ages has now been revealed in the Church through the [NT] apostles and prophets in the Spirit, not Israel [Eph 3].

Friends, the Church is not the parenthesis, as dispensationalism teaches. The Law is! The gospel (death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ and all He purchased was preached to Abram (Abraham) (Gal 3; 1 Cor 15)

Jesus said Abraham saw His day and rejoiced [John 8]. I wonder if part of what Abraham saw was Jesus putting His antagonists in their place.

Paul says a lot in Galatians 3 & he says in verse 29 only those who belong to Christ are Abraham’s descendants and heirs of the promise. Read in John 8 what Jesus said to the Jews who were contending against Him.

Abraham and Jacob both had an encounter with the cross of Jesus Christ and Isaac experienced a resurrection (Gen 13; 32; 22; Heb 11).

Christianity is NOT the child of Judaism. Christianity [faith in Christ Jesus] was God’s plan all along! An innocent animal [probably a lamb] was slain in the Garden. Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord and he and his house were saved [Gen 6]. We are saved by grace through faith [Eph 2].

Also, Judaism is the not the root of Christianity, Jesus Christ is. (Isa 11:10) Paul says in Romans 11 “if the root is holy so are the branches.” In context, Paul is talking about the remnant of Israel that are in Christ Jesus, not the unbelieving Jews of the first century. This has been misdiagnosed and mistreated. [See verses 1-5, 7]

Another text to read is John 15 where Jesus speaks of Himself being the vine and believers are the branches.

In Malachi 4 we read “The hearts of the fathers will be turned to the children and the hearts of the children to the fathers.” In some circles this is taught that the fathers are the Jews and the children are Christians. This is used to say Christians must repent for mistreating the Jews throughout history. That is not what the verse implies. Let’s take a short journey for a moment and say that is what the verse implies. Then the Jews should be the first to repent of their historical mistreatment to Christians, not vice versa. Jews began killing Christians in the infancy of the Church. Before his conversion Paul was a religious terrorist, terrorizing Christians. So much so that even after he was saved the Christian community was wary of him.

Now, the fathers are Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (the first Israel) and the children are the Jews. The fathers were not Jewish. They did not have or keep the Law. They were Hebrew [semitic] men of faith and more importantly faithful men. They related to God, not according to the Law, but according to His heart. This is genuine relationship!

Abram is the first person in Scripture to be called a Hebrew [Gen 14].

So, what Malachi said was there must be a reconnect between the faith of the fathers and their children the Jews. That is why Jesus said in John 8 if you were really Abraham’s descendants you would believe in Me. That is why Paul said in different places the real descendants of Abraham were people who had his faith.

In fact, Judaism does not even use the OT as their main Scripture. They use the Babylonian Talmud that is made up of two sections – the Mishnah and the Gemara. Jesus combated this when He was here in the flesh! “If your righteousness does not exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees you will in NO WAY enter the Kingdom.”

Wait, the Kingdom is not here yet, is it? Then why did Jesus say, “Repent, for the Kingdom is at hand [within] reach.” Why did He say, “I confer on you a kingdom as My Father conferred one on Me.” Why did He say, “The Kingdom is within you.” Or, why did He say, “It is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.”

What did Jesus mean when He said, “I will not drink the fruit of the vine again until I drink it with you in the Kingdom”? And why did new wine get poured out on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 that caused the disciples to get drunk, but not as the people supposed?

If the Kingdom is awaiting a future entrance how could Paul say, “13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Col 1) Just because the saints are not operating fully in the full Kingdom does not mean it is not here and available.

Or why would Jesus mislead people by saying this in the Beatitudes, “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs IS the Kingdom of Heaven.” Blessed are those who have been persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs IS the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matt 5:3, 10)

Here is another doozie – “If saints [Bride of Christ] are not already enjoying the Marriage Supper of the Lamb and are not yet married to our Bridegroom [Jesus Christ], then aren’t we committing fornication every time we are intimate with him [spiritually speaking of course]? Just asking!

Physical Jerusalem is called in NT Scripture – Babylon, Sodom, Egypt, Mount Sinai, Hagar, bondwomen, slave. Paul said she is to “be cast out.”

As to the dogmatic assertion that Revelation was written in 95 AD there is still open debate about that.

Was John who saw the Revelation seen just before he died or did he see the Revelation shortly before he died?

This is the essence of the battle over when Revelation was written. And this from a man who never personally met John.

By the way, Revelation is the revelation of Jesus Christ, not the antichrist.

Most dispensationalists focus on who is the antichrist and whose name equals 666.

What John was told to write included the following ~

1:1 “things which must soon take place”
1:3 “the time is near [at hand]”
22:6 “things which must soon take place”
22:7 “I am coming quickly”
22:10 “do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book for the time is near” [compare Daniel 9:24; 12:4]
22:12 “Behold, I am coming quickly”
22:20 “Yes, I am coming quickly”

I ask you who believe Revelation is entirely about the future. Does it make sense for Jesus to dictate a letter to His followers who were in horrendous circumstances in the first century and tell them 7x in a 22 page letter [figurative] that what He was saying to THEM was going to happen soon, the time is near, I am coming quickly, etc and then not carry out what He said but waited over 2000 years to fulfill it?

It would add insult to injury for Him to use language that those He wrote the letter to had no way to interpret because it was about nuclear bombs and Cobra helicopters.

If you think that is what happened write a letter [email] to someone totally depending on you and make the same references and see how they interpret it. What would they think of you if you created a “gotcha moment”. “You know, I was just kidding. It wasn’t really for you.”

Look at these words in verse 3 of chapter 1 – “BLESSED is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.” This word ‘blessed’ is the same word used in the beatitudes!

Where is the blessing in receiving a letter to you that has nothing to do with you, or your children, or grandchildren, or great grandchildren, or great great grandchildren, or great great great great great great great grandchildren for 50 generations.

Do YOU get the point?

The Book of Revelation is hardly read in secret, much less “out loud”, by modern Christians. Why is that? It scares them because they have been told it describes horrible worldwide cataclysmic events. They are told God is very mad and He isn’t going to take it any more. Well He actually was and He destroyed Jerusalem and Judaism in 70AD.

It is interesting to me that NOT ONE NT author, especially the Jewish ones, ever mention the destruction of Jerusalem and the hallowed Jewish Temple as a historical event. You remember the one that Jesus abandoned! I’ll get to that in a moment.

It’s always a good plan to rely on the Bible to sort out things that need to be sorted out. Scripture clears up the confusion because God is not confused. Sometimes we need to see what God is saying by what He did not say.

God made sure the OT writers talked about the destruction of Jerusalem and Solomon’s Temple in that epoch. It seems logical to me that He would have wanted the NT writers to at least mention its demise in passing so as to keep the Jewish people’s hopes alive that their beloved temple would be rebuilt, IF He wants it rebuilt.

If they build it God will NOT come (a play on words from the movie Field Of Dreams). In this prophetic movie, Ray, played by Kevin Costner is told that if he builds a baseball field in his corn fields then his dad, who had died years earlier, would come.

By the way, God talked about Solomon’s Temple and it was only partially destroyed and was rebuilt fairly quickly. It has been nearly 2000 years since Herod’s Temple was completely destroyed and not one word of its destruction or that it will be rebuilt in the NT. HMMMMM!

Oh yeah, The NT writers [Hebrews and Revelation] speak as if the Temple is still there. Because it was when they wrote the NT!

Look at these three verses –

“The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, ‘Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.'” (Hosea 10:8)

“Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us;’ and to the hills, ‘Cover us.'” (Luke 23:30)

Jesus spoke this to the daughters of Jerusalem as He was being led to Golgotha. I encourage you to read the context.

“And said to the mountains and rocks, ‘Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:'” (Rev 6:16)

Jesus is the one who said, “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, who stones the prophets and kills those I send to you . . . . . Therefore, I am leaving YOUR HOUSE to you desolate.” Sounds like Ichabod [the glory has departed] to me. [Matt 23]

Jesus the Jewish man said to Jerusalem –

“I am leaving”
“Your house”
“To you”
“Desolate” (abandoned, divorced)

He said Jerusalem 2x which in Scripture is always for emphasis! This was shortly before he was betrayed, not just by Judas Iscariot but the religious elite who were always attempting to trap Him.

This same Jesus said this to His disciples concerning the Temple. The same Temple His disciples were so enamored with, “Not one stone will be left upon another.”[Matt 24]

In Matthew 23 he said, ‘These things will come upon THIS generation.” What things? He had just excoriated the scribe and Pharisees for their hypocrisy. “So upon YOU ALL the guilt of ALL the righteous blood shed on the earth [possibly the land]. He then goes into His Jerusalem, Jerusalem rejection.

He references “This generation again in the Olivet discourse [Matt 24]. “Truly I say to you, ‘this generation WILL NOT pass away UNTIL all these things take place.” He then says this for emphasis, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will NOT pass away.”

Dispensationalists cannot have it both ways. They declare a generation is 40 years when they talk about God’s prophetic time clock but put the disasters Jesus prophesied on Jerusalem to a still future date. Funny how history repudiates their lack of control. For within 1 generation of approximately 40 years hell was loosed on Jerusalem, the Temple and the Jewish people. History says huge stones were hurled by the Romans in their assault upon the city.

Here’s some additional Scripture the Lord has used to change my mind about eschatology.

“Do you not know that YOU ARE THE TEMPLE of God?” (1 Cor 3; 2 Cor 6) Written by another good Jewish man, Paul.

Peter, another good Jewish man says the saints are being built up into a “spiritual house of worship” and “WE ARE the people of God.” (1 Pet 2) This is not spiritualizing the text. God has always had a spiritual people residing in a natural body.

He also calls us “holy nation.” This will come up again.

Jesus said it was possible to be naturally descended from Abraham and have the devil as your father (John 8).

Jesus said Jerusalem is not where God is looking for His worshipers (John 4).

Jesus said God loves the world, not just natural Israel (John 3).

Speaking of natural Israel. God told Abram, before he was converted to Christ and became Abraham, that He would bless those who blessed him and would curse him who cursed him (Gen 12). This has been turned into, “I will bless those who bless natural Israel and I will curse those who curse natural Israel.”

This is a clear violation of interpreting Scripture. Dispensationalism hangs on this misrepresentation. I wonder if you are even aware this promise is not found in the NT.

There is a verse in the NT [Heb 6] where a reference to God blessing Abraham is found. It is in reference to Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son, his ONLY son, Isaac. Interesting!

The writer of Hebrews says –

Jesus is better than the Old Testament prophets
Jesus is better than angels
Jesus is better than Moses
Jesus is better than Judaism
In fact Jesus is the Mediator of a better Covenant

He asserts His priesthood is eternal like Melchizedek’s and therefore replaces the Levitical priesthood – that was to last forever. God will never sanction reestablishing the Levitical priesthood and animal sacrifices!

This sounds a lot like what Jesus said of Himself as He defended Himself to self serving Jewish zealots. “One greater than Solomon is here.” One greater than Moses is here.”

God’s revelation is progressive not digressive. Thus Peter’s admonition to “be established in present truth.” (2 Pet 1:12)

Jesus, quoting Deuteronomy 8 said, “Man shall live by every word that proceeds, not proceeded, out of the mouth of God.”

By the way, Jesus is perfect theology as He is the perfect representative of Father God, and in these LAST DAYS God is speaking through, in, and by Him, NOT the prophets of the Old Testament (Heb 1). In other words, everything ever said must be viewed in the light of the life and ministry of Jesus the Christ!

The last days did not start in 1948 when the state of Israel was established. They started in a manger 2000 years ago when “Herod and ALL Jerusalem were troubled.” [Matt 2].

Herod represents a compromised political system and Jerusalem represents not just religious compromise but out and out rebellion against the Lord and His Anointed.

“1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? 2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, 3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. 4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. 5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. 6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.” (Psa 2)

The word earth is verse 2 is eretz. It is used in the phrase – the land of Israel – or Eretz Israel.

God is no respecter of people so all the lost in the earth are “heathen” and all the saved are “His people”. The heathen raging and the people imagining a vain thing are the unbelieving Jews and Gentiles in the land of Israel. The kings of the earth [land of Israel] are the Jewish and Roman leaders. The rulers, both Jewish and Roman take counsel together against the Lord God and His Anointed, the Lord Jesus Christ. They say, “let us break their [Father and Son] bonds [requirements to submit, repent and be saved]. God is laughing in heaven [He mocks their mocking]. The Lord shall have them in derision [they turned on each other and even the Jews turned on one another in the decades after Jesus ascended into heaven]. Then He shall speak to them in his wrath [70AD] and vex them in His sore displeasure [they are still lost and wandering aimlessly – even those living in the land today]. Yet, I have set MY King upon MY holy hill of Zion [the Church – Heb 12].

Mark, a good Jewish Christian, said, “The Law and the prophets were UNTIL “John” (Mark 1). He also wrote the gospel of Jesus Christ began with John.

Paul said in Galatians that the Law was given UNTIL the SEED [Christ] came. He goes on to say the Law was a tutor to bring us to Christ but once faith [in Christ] comes we no longer need a tutor. [Gal 3]

If you want a great study search the Bible for verses with the word ‘until’ in them. You will discover a lot of things that may challenge your end time belief systems.

Such as Psalm 110:1 – “The Lord (Father) says to my Lord (Son), ‘Sit at My right hand UNTIL I make (all) your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”

You’ll discover this verse many times in the NT.

In 1 Cor 15 Paul tells us when THE END will come and everyone, good or evil, will be resurrected.

“25 For He must reign UNTIL He has put all enemies under His feet. 26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. 27 For “He has put all things under His feet.” Remember Psalm 110:1?

Dispensationalism teaches Christ is not reigning yet. They believe He has to come back to a glorified national Israel in order to start His rule.

The clear NT revelation is that the Old Covenant [Law, not faith] was old and fading away (dying) and being done away with (Heb 8). This is speaking of the end of this powerless religion. The Temple in Jerusalem did not have the ark of the Covenant in it which means God’s glory had not been there for a long time. When God ripped the veil separating the Holiest Place from the other parts of the Temple the entire hoax was exposed.

That ark has been missing since the Babylonian exile. There are many dispensationalists that believe it is being kept in a top secret secure location waiting for the third temple to be built so they can with great pomp and fanfare return it to its rightful place.

The only problem with this is God will never bless that box. It and all the furniture of the Tabernacle and Temple were types and shadows of a greater reality that is found in the person of Jesus Christ. [Heb 9].

Jesus said He was snatching the Kingdom from the Jews and giving it to another nation that would bring forth fruit (Matt 21; 1 Pet 2).  In order for God to restore the kingdom to outward Israel I guess He will have to snatch it from the hands of Jesus and the new nation He gave it to.

That is never going to happen!

Jesus said, “Where the corpse is there the eagles will be” (Matt 24). I always had a hard time understanding that verse until it dawned on me the eagle was associated with the Roman legions. Approximately 40 years after Jesus said this and a few years after Hebrews was written over 1 million Jews were slaughtered, and Jerusalem and the Temple were leveled and burned by the Roman legions. Truly, where the corpse of Judaism was there were the eagles.

External historical evidence tells us things like, the Sea of Galilee turned blood red because of the mass of dead Jewish bodies. We also learn that there were so many dead people in and around Jerusalem that their corpses were stacked as high as horses bridles. That sounds very familiar to what John saw in the Revelation of Jesus Christ and is recorded in our Scripture in 14:20.

Paul said a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly and all who are of Israel are not Israel. (Rom 9)

He also said that the Israel of God is the new creation who live according to that rule (canon). (Gal 6) He also said circumcision [being Jewish] got a person nowhere with God.

He also said we (those born again) are the true circumcision and then qualifies who the true circumcision are – “those who worship God in the Spirit and put NO confidence in the flesh (Phil 3).

Speaking of flesh. Paul also said that although we [first century saints] knew Jesus after the flesh that we no longer know Him or ANYONE that way [2 Cor 5]. He said this right before he talks about the new creation – those who are in Christ Jesus. When we connect the dots of 2 Cor 5 with Gal 6 we quickly see the new creation are the born again ones.

What Paul meant by no longer knowing Jesus or others by the flesh means in the natural. For example, in Christ there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave or free, male or female, we are ONE in Christ, etc. [Gal 3 – I told you Paul said a lot in Gal 3].

The one new man is not a Jewish man, he is redeemed mankind from every nation, tribe and tongue.

We know Paul was not talking about Jesus’ humanity but his ethnicity because he also said, “There is One Mediator between God and man, the MAN Christ Jesus.” [1 Tim 2]. Paul did not say the Jewish man. Christ represents all men [mankind] from every nation, tribe and tongue.

John said, “as He IS so ARE we in the world.” [1 John 4]. Did John mean we are all Jewish or all human?

All of the promises that God made to the patriarchs and to the house of (outward Israel) were fulfilled by the time Joshua went “the way of all the earth.” (Joshua 21; 23; Neh 9)

There are NO promises left to fulfill to outward fleshly Israel. To believe otherwise reduces the inheritance of the saints.

In fact, ALL the promises of God are yes and amen in Christ Jesus (2 Cor 1). In other words, ALL the promises God has ever made are in Christ Jesus, the Lamb of God slain BEFORE the foundation of the world.

Did you know that what God actually promised Abram (Abraham) concerning an inheritance of land was not physical Canaan? It was the planet (Rom 4:13).

The earth is the Lord’s . . . . And the meek shall inherit the earth. [Psa 24; Matt 5].

Psalm 37 is replete with text that proves the wicked will be removed from the planet, not the righteous.

Now to the devil being bound. What happened at the Cross? Col 2 tells us Jesus disarmed the devil and made a public spectacle of him at the Cross.

Paul, using the analogy of a conquered king and or general in that day, writes that Jesus disarmed or stripped off all the armament the devil had. Victorious armies would strip, and bind with chains the conquered ruler or general and parade them around in public to shame them.  Is the devil chained [restrained]? Absolutely!

If not then why did Jesus teach on binding and loosing and especially binding the strong man and plundering his house? [Matt 16; Matt 18; Matt 12; Mark 3; Luke 11]

As to the 1000 years. What about the cattle on a thousand hills that God owns? Or the real question is what about that 1001 hill? Does God not own all the hills?

Or what about God’s love extends to a thousand generations of those who love him. What happens if we go past 1000? Do we start over or it is over for those generations? In Revelation Jesus said people would be thrown in jail for 10 days. Was it a literal 10 days?

Revelation 1:1 gives us a clue. In the KJV we find the text saying, ” The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John.”

Jesus sent and “signified it” by His angel . . . .  Revelation is a book of prophetic signs. Signs point to a greater reality, they are not the reality. We have to rely on Scripture to explain Scripture, not current events. A handle of the OT, especially Ezekiel and Daniel will help tremendously.

In parting, John said he and his readers were in the last hour and that the antichrist and many antichrists had already come – in the first century [1 John 2].

The last hour of what? The end of the world? Obviously not! We are still here!

The end of the Jewish world? Now we are getting somewhere!

To stretch out an hour into 2000 years takes some incredible gymnastics. History may go on for a long time from today. Again, search the Bible for “until” verses.

Maybe Jerusalem was about to be destroyed. Well not maybe, but literally!

We know from external historical evidence that after Jesus ascended into heaven men came claiming to be the Messiah.

Adam Clark Commentary

“1. Josephus says, (War, b. ii. c. 13), that there were many who, pretending to Divine inspiration, deceived the people, leading out numbers of them to the desert, pretending that God would there show them the signs of liberty, meaning redemption from the Roman power: and that an Egyptian false prophet led 30,000 men into the desert, who were almost all cut off by Felix. See Acts 21:38. It was a just judgment for God to deliver up that people into the hands of false Christs who had rejected the true one. Soon after our Lord‘s crucifixion, Simon Magus appeared, and persuaded the people of Samaria that he was the great power of God, Acts 8:9, Acts 8:10; and boasted among the Jews that he was the son of God.

2. Of the same stamp and character was also Dositheus, the Samaritan, who pretended that he was the Christ foretold by Moses.

3. About twelve years after the death of our Lord, when Cuspius Fadus was procurator of Judea, arose an impostor of the name of Theudas, who said he was a prophet, and persuaded a great multitude to follow him with their best effects to the river Jordan, which he promised to divide for their passage; and saying these things, says Josephus, he deceived many: almost the very words of our Lord.

4. A few years afterwards, under the reign of Nero, while Felix was procurator of Judea, impostors of this stamp were so frequent that some were taken and killed almost every day. Josephus. Ant. b. xx. c. 4. and 7.”

By the way, Emperor Nero’s name equaled 666! He died around 68AD. Could John in Revelation have been alluding to him? Maybe!

People can disagree with me! That is their right! It doesn’t trouble me.

People can call me names! I’m not sure that is their right! It doesn’t hurt me.

But what people don’t have the right to do is determine what I believe because I do think for myself. I have the anointing of the Holy Spirit that teaches me all things. And I am constantly searching the Scriptures, not the newspapers, “Christian” TV or paperback prophetic books written by pop theologians, to see if these things be so.

I also constantly exhort my listeners and readers to be like the Bereans. [Acts 17]

So, if you are intellectually honest and have a teachable spirit, you will at least consider what I have written and do your own study. Don’t rely on current events, paperback prophetic authors who have gotten very little right over their careers and have not repented of their misguided date setting and character assassination by calling some people like multiple popes, Ronald Wilson Reagan, Mikhail Gorbachev, Henry Kissinger, and a long list of others the antichrist.

Go to the Bible and ask the Teacher to teach you.
