Image Is Everything

‘Image is everything’ was a Madison Avenue phrase used by a camera company in the early 1990’s to capture [pun intended] the imagination of their targeted market of consumers.

Image may not be everything, but for us to fulfill God’s plan for our lives we must have the correct image of ourselves. Many Christians are captured and held prisoner by the old image they carry around in their minds. As Christians, we must view ourselves through the lens of the new creation.

Our old nature [first, sinful Adam] is dead and gone and all things have been made new in Christ [perfect, last Adam].

New here is not cosmetic. God did not put makeup on the old man to cover up his flaws. New means completely new. We ARE completely new. In fact, we have a totally new DNA. We have become a species that has never been seen before on the planet. We can no longer claim to be “only human”.

There are too many Christians who live in a virtual reality, one that no longer exists.

It is said of us that we are now complete in Christ [Col 2:10].

We are not sinners saved by grace. We were sinners. We were saved by grace when we were born again. But now we are called saints. We are saints that occasionally get it wrong, not sinners that occasionally get it right.

We are no longer paupers, or orphans. We have been adopted as sons by the Most High God. We have been accepted in the beloved and our history as sinners has been totally expunged. There is no longer a record of our old life anywhere in heaven or earth, except the one that exists in our memory.

We are told we must be transformed by the renewing of our mind [Rom 12:2]. This transformation is the process where our head [mind, understanding] catches up with our present tense reality [what it means to be in Christ]. The process of renewing our mind is essential for us to prove what the good, acceptable and perfect will of God is.

This process changes our perception of who we are, not just who we are going to be.

We can no longer afford to think like foreigners. We are [right now] citizens of heaven [Phil 3:20].

Image is everything in the context of understanding our function as saints, salt, light, conquerers and overcomers.

As a man thinks, so is he [Proverbs 23:7].
